Great news! Thanks to funding approved by Keri Gibson from the Utah Highway Safety Office (Utah Department of Public Safety) we have brand new Bell helmets in all sizes, shapes, and colors! This was made possible largely to the help of Randy Black (formerly Theron Jeppson) who is the Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Coordinator for the Utah Department of Health in the Violence and Injury Prevention Program. |
How can I get a helmet?
The person receiving the helmet must show up to our Community Bike Shop during our public hours, at which time our trained volunteers will ensure a proper helmet fit.
Can I get helmets for someone else, a group, or an event?
In our humble experience we have found that people who pick out their own helmet (colors & designs) wear it more. In addition, our supply of helmet is limited. With that in mind, event participants (especially kids) take helmets regardless if they already have one or not -- just because they are free.
As an alternative we recommend creating fancy gift certificates for a free helmet at our Community Bike Shop. Since they are free anyway, the design is up to you. That way parents can bring down their child, or individuals can stop in and get properly fitted for a helmet.
How many helmets have you given away?
- In 2006 we gave away 200 helmets valued at $1398
- In 2007 we gave away 211 helmets valued at $1475
- To date in 2008 we gave away 284 helmets valued at $2130
