The Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective announces the new Bicycle Education Program that will offer public bike safety courses throughout the summer

The Road I course will teach important skills and help build confidence in a safe and fun atmosphere.  With the bicycle boom in Utah, teaching the knowledge of how to ride with traffic and avoid accidents is the most effective way to improve safety.  The objectives of this safety program include reducing the number of bicycle related injuries and fatalities, facilitating new bicycle education programs in schools and other communities, and increasing the number of bicycle commuters. This program is sponsored by the Utah Department of Transportation.  Additional sponsorship is being provided by the Salt Lake County Government and Mayor’s Office.

The 9-hour Road I course will be offered on the second and fourth Saturdays of July, August, and September starting at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast; and the classroom and on-bike training will also be taught on Wednesday evenings.  All attendees will meet at the Collective’s Community Bike Shop at 2312 South West Temple.  Participants can register for the classes by calling the shop at FAT-BIKE (328-2453) or on the Collective’s website: http://www.slcbikecollective.org/.  Additional courses, such as the Kids I (for parents), Kids II (for kids), and Safe Routes to School, will be offered later this year when school starts.  There will also be all-women courses offered in the future.
