While we decided to keep the yellow bike, we now have other identifying marks on our community bike shop. Thanks goes out to Ron Anderson of Young Electric Sign Company for the sign, Bonie Shupe of Girl Friday Designs for the design, Red Rock Signs for the vinyl, and Steve White and Gary Manville for installing the sign. |

Happy Holidays & New Year from the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective! This has been a landmark year for us, and we owe that all to you! If you aren't sure you deserve such credit, think again. We are truly lucky to have all the volunteers, donors, students, partnerships, and exciting people that collectively make us happen.
Cheers to a fantastic year, and a new years resolution to make 2007 even better.
Thank you again! Ride Safe, and remember, cyclists fair best when they act like and are treated as drivers of vehicles. By the way, enjoy this bit of Tchaikovsky by Specialized. |

Thanks to a partnership with YouthCity, we were able to offer yet another successful session of Earn-a-Bike. 7 of 9 students completed the course which ran from Nov. 6th until Dec. 22nd meeting twice a week for just over an hour each time. Congratulations goes out to those students, and especially the wonderful volunteers that help make it happen. Instructors: Mark Kennedy, Mike Haring & Jonathan Morrison

The official stance, if there can be one, is that we support helmet use through education. We accomplish this with our BikeEd classes and our free helmet distribution program. However we would support legislation that mandates helmets for minors to match the current Utah law for motorcyclists. Click here to see what other helmet laws are in other states. The Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective is supplying parts and mechanical support to the bright young minds of the McGillis School’s Human Powered Vehicles Engineering Elective. Joe Norman, the teacher of these future engineers, and the students themselves will be taking pictures – so check back. “This elective will expose students to various engineering principles through hands-on projects and fabrication of mechanisms, specifically human powered vehicles. Topics include forces and stresses, power and energy use, aerodynamics, material properties, project scheduling and management, among others. Students will survey various methods of human-powered locomotion, design their own through sketches and scale models, and attempt to complete a full-scale working human powered vehicle by the end of the trimester.”

We will be extending our shop hours to include Monday nights from 5-9pm for volunteers ONLY. Our Tuesday and Thursday open shop hours have been a huge success but we noticed a demand for people that just want to volunteer. So instead of combining the general public (working on their own projects) with volunteers (working on projects for the collective) on the same night -- we will now have separate days. Monday Night (5-9pm) will include: - Shop organization & construction
- Working on bikes for goodwill organizations and shop sales
- Other projects associated with the collective
